// 20 checks
The free SEO audit checks 20 on-page and authority factors Google uses to evaluate and rank a page. Each check returns a pass, warning or fail with a plain-English explanation of what it means and how to fix it. Six new checks added in 2026: internal links, outbound authority links, title CTR signals, Twitter/X card, OG URL, and heading depth.
Checks length (50–60 chars), presence and whether the tag is missing or truncated in search results.
Checks length (120–158 chars) and presence. Missing or over-length meta descriptions hurt CTR.
Confirms exactly one H1 exists. Multiple H1s or no H1 confuses crawlers and dilutes relevance.
Checks H2/H3 hierarchy is logical and the page has meaningful sub-headings beyond just an H1.
Verifies the page is served over HTTPS. HTTP pages get a security warning in Chrome and a rankings penalty.
// context
On-page SEO is entirely within your control. Unlike backlinks — which require other websites to link to you — or domain authority, which takes years to build, on-page issues are fixable today. A missing title tag, a duplicate H1 or a page flagged noindex can be corrected in minutes and the fix takes effect in the next Google crawl.
Google's ranking system looks at on-page signals first to understand what a page is about before deciding where to rank it. Pages with clear title tags, logical heading structures, proper canonical tags and structured data are easier for Google to classify — and classified pages rank. Pages without these basics have a structural ceiling on how high they can go, no matter how much other SEO work is done.
Structured data (schema markup) is increasingly important in 2026. AI search engines — Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, ChatGPT search — use structured data to identify pages worth citing. Pages with FAQ schema, Article schema or Organisation schema appear more often as AI-cited sources, driving referral traffic that doesn't depend on traditional ranking position.

// 2026 ranking factors
PageRank is about trust distance, not link count. Google measures how many "hops" your page is from a trusted hub — sites like established newspapers or major platforms. Fewer hops = higher perceived authority. Raw backlink quantity matters far less than the trustworthiness of your linking sources.
Topical authority beats keyword density. Google rewards sites that cover a topic comprehensively — a cluster of interlinked articles around a subject outperforms one isolated post, regardless of how well-optimized that post is. Build clusters: one pillar page per topic, with 3–5 supporting articles all linking to each other.
CTR is a real ranking signal. Google measures how often searchers click your listing. Titles with a year (2026), a specific number ("20 checks"), or a power word (Best / Free / Complete) consistently outperform generic titles in click-through rate — and higher CTR pushes rankings up over time.
Discovered but not indexed? It means Google found the page but decided it wasn't worth ranking. Fix: improve content quality, add internal links from your strongest pages, add structured data, and submit the URL in Google Search Console after the update.
Content clusters
3–5 interlinked articles per topic outrank isolated posts every time
Internal link strategy
Link from your ranking pages to your weak pages — passes PageRank authority directly
CTR optimization
Year + number + power word in title = more clicks = better rankings
Republishing stuck pages
Change URL slug, improve content, resubmit in GSC — new URL gets fresh evaluation
Structured data
Required for AI Overviews, rich results, and LLM citations in 2026
// faq
The free SEO audit checks 14 on-page factors: title tag length and keyword presence, meta description length and quality, H1 tag presence, heading structure (H2/H3 hierarchy), HTTPS security, mobile viewport meta tag, canonical tag, Open Graph social tags (og:title, og:description, og:image), structured data (JSON-LD schema markup), image alt text coverage, language attribute, content depth, indexability (noindex check) and favicon. You get a score out of 100, a letter grade and every check explained in plain English.

Checks for the viewport meta tag required for Google's mobile-first indexing.
Confirms a canonical URL is declared to prevent duplicate-content penalties across similar pages.
Checks og:title, og:description and og:image — required for correct previews on LinkedIn, X and WhatsApp.
Detects any JSON-LD schema markup. Required for rich results and AI search citations.
Samples img tags and flags missing alt attributes — accessibility and image-search ranking factor.
Checks the html lang attribute. Missing lang tags affect localisation and screen-reader accessibility.
Estimates word count. Pages under 300 words are typically too thin to rank for competitive queries.
Checks for noindex meta tags or X-Robots-Tag headers that would prevent Google from indexing the page.
Confirms a favicon is declared. Small trust and UX signal that affects return-visitor CTR.
Counts links pointing to other pages on the same site. Internal linking passes topical authority to weaker pages — a key ranking lever from PageRank theory.
Checks for at least one link to an external authoritative source. Linking to trusted domains signals quality to Google.
Checks if the title contains a year, number, or power word (Best / Free / Complete / Guide). Google measures click-through rate from SERPs — stronger titles get more clicks and rank higher.
Checks twitter:card and twitter:title meta tags. Controls how the page previews when shared on X/Twitter.
Checks for the og:url Open Graph tag. Declares the canonical URL for social platforms to prevent duplicate-share confusion.
Counts H3 sub-headings. Nested heading structure (H1 → H2 → H3) signals topical depth and authority on a subject.
